Sex Therapy is a form of psychotherapy designed to help individuals and couples address issues related to relationships, intimacy and sexuality.
 
Sexual concerns such as Desire, Orgasmic responses, Sexual Dysfunction, Erectile Difficulties, Premature Ejaculation, Low Desire, Sexual and reproductive anatomy and physiology, Kinks and fetishes, Sexually transmitted diseases and prevention techniques, Paraphilias, Medical aspects of sexuality and sexual functions, diagnosis and treatment of sexual disorders and dysfunctions, Gender identity issues-relationships, Sexual Identity issues, Infidelity, Mixed Orientation Marriages (MOM) or Mixed Orientation Relationships (MOR), and Out-of-Control Sexual Behaviors (OCSB).

What is Sex Therapy?

Sexual Concerns are legitimate and important, as well as, embarrassing and at times awkward.  Individuals have a right to expect serious professional attention and expert knowledge when they consult sex therapists about sexual concerns.

Sex Therapists and Clinical Sexologists have extensive post-graduate education and specialized training in the fields of human sexuality, psychology and clinical mental health.

Joan is a Board-Certified Clinical Sexologist and a certified Sex Therapist with the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) which is a rigorous certification process for Sex Therapy.

Sex is considered a powerful experience that can also create distress and shame when our expectations fall short, in addition to feeling uncomfortable with this topic even when we feel safe to share with our partners and physicians.
