When sexual functioning is a problem, it can affect how we feel about ourselves, our relationships and our lives. Joan utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to address sexual dysfunctional issues, generalized anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues and more when working with patients to help them identify and examine ALL components of their lives that can affect their sexual health, as well as, emotional health.
Joan is a well sought out Motivational Speaker where she has spoken at various events to help break down the barriers of having a healthy relationship. She does an excellent job of normalizing many taboo’s that EVERYONE experiences when talking about SEX!
Joan has presented at Harvard University for the National Symposium of Personal Development in 2017, and at the XXIIIth, DGSS (German Society for Social Scientific Sexuality Research) Conference 2018, “Sexology between Research, Education, Therapy and Counseling” in Munich, Germany.
Joan has an energetic and fun way of taking the “Awkwardness and SHAME” out of sexual conversations…and helps her patients develop their own voice and use that voice to ask for what they want and need in their relationships.
It has been her love of meeting people, her passion and commitment, to helping couples find an emotional connection on a deeper level in order to have a truly intimate, healthy, spiritual connection with their partners and themselves…that led her to this work!
Joan obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in Marketing & Communications. She graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha as a Regent Scholar and earned her Master’s Degree in Community Counseling, and a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Clinical Sexology from Modern Sex Therapy Institutes (MSTI).
